Demons and devils and spooks OH MY!

If these people aren't totally crazy, they aren't anything...

Demons and devils and spooks, oh my!

Queen of Heaven? Axis of Evil? Prophecy chants? Demon strongholds? Generational curses?

What are these people, spiritualists, animists or something? The whole belief system reminds me of the superstition common to primitive cultures or those held in thrall by a paternalistic religious structure...

Oh, wait. That's it.

My bad.

Yeah, another "WTF???"

Doing battle against the Queen of Heaven. Ok, suuuuuuuuure:

You Just Can't Make This Shit UP!!!!!

Wackaloons? Crazed and delusional? Insane? Lala Land? White cots and padded cell territory?

Oh, yeah, these people just keep getting stupider and stupider and stupider. This from NPR:

"Holy Highway"

This isn't even funny. There is no way something this completely delusional could be funny. It's not even pathetic. It's just plain, old damned stupid.

They seem to be living in the middle ages, superstition rampant, paralyzed by fear of the unknown or unknowable? What possesses them to give themselves over to such foolishness?

This just make no sense at all. Absolutely none. It is so far beyond the pale of rational, responsible adult thought processes that I have no vocabulary to describe it. I mean, really! How can people be that stupid and live?

ahhhhhhh, the sound of relief

For those of you who don't already know, SS has moved out. His decision entirely. He will be 18 in 3 weeks and we are more relieved that you would believe possible.

The last months have been one charlie foxtrot after another. The situation got so intolerable that his father sat him down Sunday morning and told him that "minimum expectations are not negotiable."

To make a long story short... the kid went into a rage, packed up and left. He will not be coming back, regardless.

We did what we could. No guilt here, folks.

Just relief.

Another YJCMTSU

from the Tuesday 10-14-2008 Des Moines Register:

Even in the most crime-plagued cities in America, you don't see crimes like the one that occurred in northern Iowa on Sunday.

Dominic Andrew Bjerke, 21, of LeRoy, Minn., is accused of stealing a combine and taking it on a joy ride across three properties near McIntire about 2:30 a.m.

The combine caused damage to numerous vehicles and a couple of garages, according to the Mitchell County Sheriff's Office.

Robert Starry estimates the combine missed his house by inches. "There are still tracks in the yard," he said Monday.

Several street signs and a bridge also were damaged during Bjerke's early-morning excursion.

Starry said he was more fortunate than some of his neighbors. However, the combine still removed a 30-foot fence and hit his garage.

Starry said he saw Bjerke before he was taken into custody. "He couldn't talk; like he was a zombie or something," Starry said.

The combine was reported stolen from Ernest Schofield, who lives near McIntire. He declined to comment on the incident.

The combine is considered a total loss.

Bjerke was being held in the Mitchell County jail on $26,000 bond. He was charged with drunken driving, theft, burglary and criminal mischief.

It's funny. As long as you were nowhere in the vicinity of the incident.

Dumbassery of a different kind

This has to be a joke. Doesn't it?

But, well... um, maybe not? In all their bizarre glory, fashion [ahem] from Martin Margiela, a Belgian. It's said that the designer has never agreed to an interview since showing publicly in 1988.

That's because Martin Margiela is actually the pseudonym of the entire inmate population of a nameless lunatic asylum in Zerkhyrgyristan.

It's not even good "performance art."

Give it up, people, you are too far gone to live.

OMG omg omg omg omg

I'm trying really, really hard to keep from laughing.

from The Mudflats:

"McCain Camp Figures Out Sarah Palin’s Problem!

29 09 2008

Rarely do things actually make me laugh out loud, alone in a room…especially the Wall Street Journal. But, there’s a first time for everything.

(clearing throat and trying to be serious)

Apparently Republicans have figured out what Palin’s problem is, and what she needs to do to bolster her plummeting poll numbers. I DARE you to keep a straight face.

Some prominent Republicans and senior members of Congress have expressed worries about certain facets of the Palin campaign, particularly that Gov. Palin may be “overprepared” and not encouraged to be herself, an adviser said.

And, the same article plants the seed for the “need to spend more time with my family” excuse that some are starting to think may be the excuse used to mark the end of her candidacy if things tank after the debate.

“For his part, Mr. Palin has worried about the frequent separation of his wife from her family, friends and Alaska staff, an adviser said.”

Ahhh…Todd is not pleased.

But, back to the debate on Thursday… Here’s the strategy we can expect.

“It’s time to let Palin be Palin — and let it all hang out,” said Scott Reed, a Republican strategist. Yes, enough of that”overprepared” rigid Palin who lets none of her personality escape. Go ahead….let it all hang out. I’ve got my popcorn."

Ok, never mind. I'm guffawing...

gawd, really?

From The Agitator:

A Carefully-Planned, Not-At-All-Slapped-Together Number Pulled Out of Thin Air

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

I don’t know about you, but when this administration says, “just trust us,” I think we’d all be justified to run screaming in the other direction.

[White House Deputy Press Secretary Tony] Fratto insisted that the plan was not slapped together and had been drawn up as a contingency over previous months and weeks by administration officials. He acknowledged lawmakers were getting only days to peruse it, but he said this should be enough.

That was Tuesday morning. Tuesday afternoon an article went up at Forbes.com with this passage:

In fact, some of the most basic details, including the $700 billion figure Treasury would use to buy up bad debt, are fuzzy.

“It’s not based on any particular data point,” a Treasury spokeswoman told Forbes.com Tuesday. “We just wanted to choose a really large number.”

Honest, you just can't possibly make this shit up. You just can't.

This is annoying

OK, someone doesn't like a recipe.

Someone who has none posted.

Someone who doesn't say why they don't like the recipe.

Someone who has been on the site since 2005.

This is very annoying, rude and a bit suspicious.

I'd say the posted name is apt, "Injustice." I'm not sure exactly who this person is but he/she/it has 7 pages of recipe reviews, 62 are 1 star, 40 no stars, 36 with 2 to 5 stars.

I find it interesting, as well, that this person absolutely lambastes other people with spurious historical and culinary information. The reviewer, or someone, went back through a lot of the previously posted reviews and deleted the comments in the reviews. This is a curious thing to do, very curious. Some of the most irrational and egregious comments are the ones being deleted.

The recipe that she/he/it reviewed that is mine said this:

"Sorry Queen...I have to tell you that an heirloom recipe would not tell you to run under the broiler...unless they have been revamped for more modern times. I didn't know about a broiler for ages!"

Oddly enough, there was (and is) nothing in the recipe that states it is an "heirloom" recipe. Not One Word.

After that, a number of members noticed the review and started making the dish. A couple even went so far as to vouch for its authenticity, among them native Britons.*

I can only make the assumption that this person is a pompous ass and let it go at that. If read in a light vein, most of the comments are pretty entertaining if you find dumbassery funny.

* "Injustice" seems to have a thing for rarebit, too. There is another review that states this:
"Genuine Welsh Rarebit is a hot, spicy cheesy sauce that is served on toast. This is as far away from the real thing as I can imagine."

The bizarre thing about that is the recipe poster states that she has adapted the recipe to their own personal tastes.

You just can't make this shit up Redux

Holtz-Eakin: McCain helped create BlackBerry

Asked what work John McCain did as chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee that helped him understand the financial markets, the candidate's top economic adviser wielded visual evidence: his BlackBerry.

"He did this," Douglas Holtz-Eakin told reporters this morning, holding up his BlackBerry. "Telecommunications of the United States is a premier innovation in the past 15 years, comes right through the Commerce Committee. So you're looking at the miracle John McCain helped create and that's what he did."

Uh HUH. Wonder what the folks at Research in Motion think of that one?

With the incredible amount of dumbassery proceeding from the Republicrat campaign, how can anyone IN THEIR RIGHT MIND even give a moment's thought to voting for those fools?

Wanna live in the U.K.?

Best be careful what day you put your trash out...

The zeal shown by councils in enforcing their complicated rules about rubbish disposal, including the use of child informers to catch "bin criminals", is particularly oppressive. A woman in Manchester was fined £700 this week for putting out her rubbish on the wrong day - an offence known as "the advancement of waste". Her reason? To make more room in her backyard for her four-year-old daughter to play in.

That's approximately 1400 USD for the heinous crime of "advancement of waste." Uh, yeeeeeaaah.

If someone tried imposing something like that here, they'd be getting irate phone calls, being stopped on the street, and just generally would have their lives made miserable by irate, disgruntled, disgusted citizens, and rightfully so.

In the last year there was a big stink raised in one of the snooty suburbs of our little capitol about trash bins. There is a regulation that states no trash containers shall be seen from the street. Some poor schmuck left his beside his garage because he was already late for work. He then received a summons because someone, either a snoopy neighbor or a cop, noticed the bin and reported him. I don't know how the whole thing worked out but you can be darned sure I would be making an appearance at a council meeting and asking to confront my accusers...

Did you say dumbassery?

Honestly, and these people expect us to VOTE for them?

Speechless, just speechless.

Dangerousness?

If this doesn't just beat all:

Cuba arrests dissident rocker, band says

HAVANA, Cuba (CNN) -- Cuban police have arrested dissident musician Gorki Aguila on a charge of "dangerousness," fellow band members said Tuesday.

Hebert Dominguez, the bass player in Aguila's punk rock band, Porno para Ricardo, said police detained Aguila at his home at 10 a.m. Monday.

Aguila, the lead singer, was arrested as he was about to record the final songs of the band's next record, according to a statement on the band's Web site.

"This new episode of harassment and persecution is occurring just as Porno para Ricardo is in the middle of recording its new record, which eliminates any possibility that this repressive escalation could be described as a 'coincidence,' " the statement said. "In Cuba, the voice of the brave is silenced by the regime, which doesn't hesitate to use intimidation and force."

An official at the state-run press office said Cuba had no comment on the arrest.

Cuba uses the charge of "dangerousness" to prosecute those whom authorities believe are likely to commit crimes. Under Cuba's penal code, habitual drunkenness and anti-social behavior are signs of a "state of dangerousness."

Dangerousness. Yeah, well, dumbassery obviously isn't confined to these United States.

Dumbassery from Ohio

That administrator* really needs to get her head out of the nether regions. That photo doesn't appear, at least to me, to be showing a naughty outfit. It just looks like "cheerleader appropriate attire."

Now for this particular Lolli-person, "administrator appropriate attire" would be clunky shoes, ankle length skirts and a shirt that buttons around the wrists and up under the chin, kind of a modern day Gibson Girl without the cute factor. Sounds like a deal to me.

Parents of cheerleaders at an Ohio high school are frustrated with administrators for uniforms they say come up short in the classroom.

Monroe Schools Superintendent Elizabeth Lolli told WLWT TV that cheerleaders were instructed to wear long shorts and T-shirts underneath their uniforms at a pep rally Friday.

"The skirts that the cheerleaders wear are very short, and they're very tight and they're slit so they can do the gymnastics that are required of a cheerleader," Lolli told WLWT.com.

Lolli said the skirts are allowed only during assemblies and games.

"You want to have students wear appropriate clothing during the educational period of the day, and then after school, wear the appropriate clothing for the event," she said.

The uniforms have not been an issue in previous years because the district's dress code was not specific on required length for shorts and skirts. The policy was clarified earlier this year, requiring that the bottom of shorts and skirts be no more than 3 inches above the knee.

Parent Becky Daniel said the school's dress code should not apply to cheerleader's uniforms.

* Just so someone is offended, I suspect that admin. to be a fundie whackjob. So there.

Dumbassery from Iowa

No, really??????

Man jumps from car, is seriously injured
A young woman is comforted at the scene of an incident Tuesday that left Charlie Kropf, 20, in critical condition at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa. (Globe Gazette photo by Arian Schuessler)
MASON CITY — A Mason City man was in critical condition Tuesday evening at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa after he jumped out of a car and was struck by another vehicle at 1:22 p.m. Tuesday.

Charlie Kropf, 20, jumped from the rear passenger seat of a vehicle driven by Shirley Kropf, 71, Mason City, according to a Mason City Police Department press release.

He was struck by a vehicle driven by Stacey Lester, 33, Clear Lake.

Lester was eastbound in the 3700 block of 12th Street Northwest. Kropf was traveling westbound.

The accident remains under investigation by the Mason City Police Department.

OK, now really. REALLY! What did that guy think he was doing? How could anyone in their right mind jump out of the back seat of a car into the path of oncoming traffic.

Darwin Award nominee.

ETA: This guy has since died. It's too bad that, at 20, he had to choose such a dumbass thing to do.

Pooturs suck

Had a short power failure late yesterday afternoon.

Guess what?

This pootur is all forked up.

Haven't had time to figure out what exactly isn't working right and don't much feel like fooling with it today.

So, ppppppppttttttttttttt to you and your dumbassery, computer.

Stop the Spying!

About Me

A hobby cook from the Midwest. Experiments, thoughts, new recipes, maybe even a photo or two... You noticed the pouting little girl with the words superimposed over her face? Growing up in the 60s and 70s the refrain of "there are starving children in [insert current poverty-stricken nation] that would love to have such... etc etc etc." I don't know that anyone actually believed all that but the image of a starving foreign child, holding out a bowl in hopes of being gifted with boiled tongue or green tomato pie, was pretty powerful. I do recall the kind of trouble kids would inevitably be in if they dared to say what most of us thought: "Well, then, send this stuff right on over to those poor, starving [insert country] kids." I don't usually post other people's photos, just my own. If you want to borrow or use one of my photos, I would appreciate your asking first. I usually don't mind but do hate having my work attributed to someone else. By the way, I found the photo of that pouting girl on the web with no attribution. If it's yours? We'll deal, ok? Thanks.
